We used the Marriot as our honeymoon suite for the night and for our guests as a block set of rooms. From our guests we received many compliments from the Marriot, along with the incredible views, location, and helpful staff, (they also appreciated the reduced rate as a block room). The staff made sure to get my guests welcome bags we created for those booked in our block rooms. Our event specialist was Liz, and I have to personally thank her for her prompt responses with emails and making sure my requests were met. I asked for a room on a high floor overlooking the city, and we had the perfect room! We could see the city (including stadiums) and ambassadors bridge from our suite. Liz met us in the lobby when we checked in and even left a surprise for us when we returned to our room after the wedding: champagne and strawberries ! It was a great was for my husband and I to end our evening recapping our wonderful wedding day. Even though we are from the surrounding area, we look forward to staying again sometime in the future!

I booked my room block at this hotel & am so excited to give our guests views of the city that they cannot see anywhere else. You can see my venue from the hotel - which is awesome! The sales team was extremely responsive and very helpful. I cannot wait to showoff this hotel and the city to my guests.

They did a fabulous job, especially the event coordinator who helped track down our band when they were late setting up.

Extremely accommodating! Did a fantastic job arranging all of our guests rooms, as well as ensuring we had ample space to prepare for the wedding

The view from 42 Degrees North on the water is stunning. It has floor to ceiling windows for more than 180 degrees around. Although the venue is more expensive, you will spend a lot less on decorations and up lighting.

We stayed at the Detroit Marriott at the Ren Cen and had a great time. Our service when we got there was fantastic. They were able to let everyone do early check in which was extremely appreciated by most of our guests and our whole wedding party. We had a little bit of trouble booking the block, since there was a concert downtown that same night, but it all worked out and we had plenty of rooms for all of our guests. If you are getting married downtown you should absolutely book a room at the ren cen.

Editing My Review, Because They Turned It Around.

Edit: My review got their attention, and I'm pleased to say that we were able to keep our date.

Things were a bit weird with payments, because we had missed 2 of them during that period where we weren't able to get ahold of anyone. We were given a new manager, Lynsey, who was PHENOMENAL. She really did care about our event, and wanted things to go well. She checked on us the entire weekend to make sure things were good. She also made sure were were able to get kosher wine for the kiddush, challah for the blessing, and that kosher meals could be delivered for the guests who needed them.

The catering and the chef were GREAT. The food was absolutely divine. And the hotel staff? Beautiful, beautiful people. They were okay with us leaving a couple big items in the ballroom overnight and picking them up in the morning, which was a huge boon. It made our lives significantly easier.

Overall? Our experience with them was good. Once things were cleared up, I feel like we had the experience we should have had from the beginning.

Just wish I didn't have to write a crappy review in order to get their attention.

We were so excited to be able to have our wedding here. I'm from Detroit, and I wanted to be able to show the guests who haven't been here all that Detroit has to offer.

Tina was great. Very responsive. But then, after our contract was signed, she turned me over to Shanina. Who hasn't replied to me in SIX MONTHS. I have called and called. I've left messages on her work phone. Her cell phone voicemail was never even set up, so that contact information is useless.

It's 5 months until the wedding. I don't have the information for my guests to get their block rates. I haven't had a chance to meet with the caterer to pick meals. They haven't even taken the money that was supposed to be auto-charged three months ago! For all I know, they've completely canceled everything!

I can't get answers from anybody. No one is answering my calls. No one is answering my emails. No one is picking up the phone.

This is absolute bullshit. I expect better from a Marriott.

Overall, the place was amazing. The view was gorgeous and I don't think we could have asked for a better location. Simply beautiful! The negatives are that I really didn't get what I paid for. The wedding coordinator was so distracted by everything else, she had no time for us. I would ask her questions and get vague answers. On the day of the wedding, she was no where to be found. Come to find out, she was showing another couple my reception room in hopes to get another sale. The room wasn't set up in time because the staff didn't know what was going on. My centerpieces were completely wrong (and I paid a lot of money for them). Everyone saw me before the wedding because I could not find the wedding coordinator to show me where to go. Overall, I had a great time at my wedding, but I wouldn't recommend them.

We had our wedding in 42 Degrees North which offers 180 degree views of the Detroit River and Windsor skyline. It was absolutely beautiful from beginning to end, which made the less than awesome service worth it. Throughout our nine months working with this venue our event planner was changed three times which made planning with the venue very difficult. Our first two coordinators did a less than great job but luckily our third event coordinator actually cared and was good at her job. They do not go over the planning process in the beginning so a lot of it was a guessing game for us and many times we felt like an inconvenience to the event managers. When our wedding day came they served completely wrong appetizers, which was so disappointing because our original choices were delicious and the ones they served were not so great. We had also paid an extra $600 toward our wedding cake so we had an extra layer of cake to take home to our elderly family to feel included in our wedding that was mysteriously lost/stolen/eaten/who knows. There were also full bottles of wine which were used as our seating cards that went missing. With all that being said, we have pictures that are worth a million dollars because of this venue and our wedding was beautiful! The food (aside from the appetizers) was phenomenal, we are still getting compliments on how great the filet and salmon dishes were. I would recommend this venue, just use caution and make sure you spell everything out that you want and have some sort of written communication to prove it. The views and food are worth your trouble!!
