A true venue GEM in the DMV area!

I cannot say enough good things about Hollin Hall, or recommend it highly enough to couples on the market for the PERFECT venue. When we began our venue search, it was clear that there were a lot of venues that were either too big for our smaller wedding (~75 people) or came with lots of hidden costs and strings attached. We also didn’t want to be the center of public attention by choosing a venue in the middle of DC or Old Town Alexandria. When we visited Hollin Hall, we knew that this was the spot for us and we moved to snap up our desired date roughly ~8 months ahead of our wedding day.

Hollin Hall is extremely convenient to get to. For local guests, it’s an easy drive; for folks from out of town, it’s an easy uber from any hotel in Alexandria. When you *do* get to Hollin Hall, you’re welcomed by this wonderfully quiet, private space that feels worlds away from the rest of Washington. And the best part of all—one of the reasons that I think it is a true gem—you get the ENTIRE grounds with your rental. There is tremendous flexibility in how you organize your wedding, whether outdoors or indoors, rain or shine. There are 3 different spaces to use: the gardens, the meeting hall (church space), and the historic home. The permutations of options are endless! We planned for good weather and held our ceremony in the garden space, then moved into the meeting hall for the reception.

The venue coordinator, Amanda Casey, is an absolute delight to work with. She is kind, patient, warm, and extremely well organized. If you go with Hollin Hall as your venue, pay the extra money to have Amanda serve as your day-of coordinator. She will take ALL of the day-of logistics off your plate, coordinating with vendors for delivery, ensuring that everything is set-up, and overseeing the entire night. When it came to setting up all of our centerpieces, I gave Amanda verbal instructions and put notes on boxes of stuff—and she did all the rest. Not a single item was out of place, and everything ran so very smoothly all night. Spending the extra bit of money for Amanda’s support was easily the 2nd best planning decision we made (the 1st best decision, of course, being our choice to get married at Hollin Hall!).

Amanda at Hollin Hall was very easy to work with and very attentive to our many questions. We had to make a last minute change bringing the ceremony inside and Amanda made it happen with ease! She was present at the rehearsal and the day of the wedding and was very hands-on making sure everything went well. Great facility, beautiful well-kept grounds, and kind attentive staff!! Great wedding venue!

Choosing a venue was a challenge for us but from the beginning Hollin Hall was a front runner and turned out to be a great choice for us!! The value is incredible-beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces between 2 different buildings-one with historic charm, the other a modern beauty! And the outdoor gardens are just gorgeous! The location was great, ended up being 15 mins from our home which was perfect for consultations, walk throughs, and of course day of convenience! And the abundance of free parking for our guests was great! Not to mention, it's a beautiful and quiet oasis that feels both spacious and intimate. We wanted an outdoor garden wedding but the great indoor spaces gave us an excellent backup plan should it rain on our parade; which it did-but NO MATTER, we seamlessly moved to Plan B and the party continued on as planned!! The venue also has a ton of chairs and tables which helped us save money on rentals. And Amanda, the Coordinator, was a joy to work with; very professional, always happy to answer questions and easy to get in touch with! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this venue. We loved having our wedding there, and were extremely happy with our decision!!

Hollin Hall and The Meeting House were lovely facilities for our daughter's wedding! The space was ample yet intimate. We chose to use both buildings, which provided variety to different parts of the event. It kept the party moving and flowing to use both spaces. Amanda was most helpful and personal through the entire planning phase! She accommodated us in many ways with complete kindness, understanding and professionalism. The caterers
( Heart2Heart) and Amanda worked well together which made the wedding go smoothly! I felt that Amanda and the caterers were most sincere in meeting our needs. The place was also very clean and handicap accessible which was nice. There were places to stand or sit or step outside if guests wanted to move away from music too. Everything was handled efficiently and professionally! I think you will be happy working with all that Hollin Hall and the Meeting House offer!

We had our wedding reception at Hollin Hall, and it was such a wonderful experience! Amanda Casey (the coordinator extraordinaire) made sure everything went smoothly, and it did! We had many requests and requirements for the reception, and she went out of her way to accommodate our needs and wants. She recommended excellent vendors who also went above and beyond for dietary restrictions.
The location of Hollin Hall is also nice, and close to 495, but you wouldn't know it. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood with beautiful grounds, it feels secluded and has beautiful gardens to wander. We were married in March and even though there were no leaves or flowers blooming it was a pretty backdrop for all our photos. I would definitely recommend Hollin Hall to anyone looking for a DC area wedding venue!

Hollin Hall was perfect for our 120 person wedding. We had wanted to be outside, but the weather just didn't cooperate. Having the Meeting House as a backup though worked perfectly. We were still able to get some pictures on the beautiful grounds and the Mansion was a great site for our reception. We had dancing in the Fireplace Room, the bar in the sun room, the buffet table set up in the foyer, and 8 round tables in the other two rooms. Our guests were able to spread onto the Wisteria Arbor and around in the gardens. The venue doesn't need much decoration, which makes it super easy. We were worried about the 9pm end time, but it really worked out perfectly for our guests, many of whom had kids or weren't really into partying until the wee hours of the night. The rest of us moved the party to a bar in Old Town after. This is definitely the place to get married if you're looking in Alexandria.

My husband and I got married at Hollin Hall on 1/1/17 and it was the most perfect day (even the weather cooperated!). This is a lovely place to get married and the main draws were the property, being able to have the wedding and reception in one place, the outstanding wedding coordinator (Amanda Casey), and being able to have a lovely wedding on a budget. This was the only place we looked at and just decided it was the one. The rates are competitive and you even get your deposit back quickly after the wedding is over, assuming everything is left in its proper place and you go with one of their preferred caterers. We used one, To Your Taste Catering, and they are phenomenal (if you choose them, Cheryl Connors is amazing and so is their main chef -- get the steak w/ chimichurri sauce!). I can't say enough about this hidden gem in the Mount Vernon area. I'm sure it's gorgeous in the summer (outside weddings) and fall when the weather is crisp. Since we did ours over the holidays, there were still Christmas decorations up and that was a-okay with us... beautiful scenery and less to decorate!

Everything was great from start to finish at the Mount Vernon Unitarian Church. The wedding coordinator, Amanda, is wonderful to work with and very responsive. Plus, she made sure the garden was perfect for our wedding. The white gates were cleaned and so were the chairs. Also, on the day of she made sure nothing (within her power) went wrong. She even asked some kids to be quiet on the playground nearby so they wouldn't disturb our ceremony. And as for the grounds, this place is full of great photo opportunities. The rental included the historic Hollin Hall as well as the Meeting House and the beautiful grounds. So there were plenty of places also to have the ceremony indoors in case of rain. I liked the room that us girls got dressed in at Hollin Hall. There was good lighting in the early afternoon and plenty of space to spread out to get ready. All in all I am very happy with our decision to have our ceremony at the Mount Vernon Unitarian Church. Not to mention the price was better than my own church down the street and much prettier inside and out.

I recently had my wedding at Hollin Hall (mid-October). I was SO lucky that there was a weekend still available just 3 months before the month I wanted. I had found one other spot in the area that was ...nice. I took my fiance there to show him, and he agreed that it "would work." Then I found Hollin Hall. We both went to visit Hollin Hall, and we both agreed within seconds that it was an amazing spot. We cancelled our hold on the other venue and went with Hollin Hall. We are both so glad we did. Everyone who came to our wedding commented how beautiful the venue was. The cost was reasonable, especially considered that you get use of the gardens out back, where we were luckily able to hold our ceremony, as well as inside the historic Hollin House. When it started raining after the ceremony, we were all glad for the inside space! While I was disappointed by the rain because it meant less time out in the lovely gardens, I was SO happy to have a beautiful indoor space to use that was not a bland reception hall. I will also say that Amanda, the Hollin Hall coordinator, was fantastic. I loved her, my husband loved her, and both of our moms. She answered all of our questions throughout the planning process, was always responsive when contacted, was willing to work with me on viewing times beforehand, and the day of the wedding, even after working an event that same morning and having a cold, she was patient and kind and helpful throughout our wedding that afternoon/evening. Everything was perfect, and Hollin Hall certainly helped make it so!

Several things went into our decision to have our wedding at Hollin Hall/The Meeting house. We were first attracted to the venue because of the outside gardens however, once we visited we found that the venue has everything we wanted. The upstairs of Hollin Hall provides nice rooms for bride, groom, and wedding party preparation. The downstairs has charming decor for a cocktail hour or reception. The outside garden and overhead trellis provides a sociable space for guests to gather as well.
The Meeting House is surprisingly large and can accomodate different setups for tables, buffet, and a DJ including great options for outside and inside setups. The Meeting House collects solar power which is an added bonus!
The site Coordinator was wonder and very responsive to our concerns, questions and requests. The area had lost power due to a storm and the Coordinator made every effort to keep us updated and kept in touch with the caterer; she even looked for generators to rent and found some candles and battery torches to hang from the ceilings. The price for renting the venue is very reasonable compared to others venues in the area.

Hollin Hall was a beautiful venue for our June wedding. We were married in front of the house and had the cocktail hour on the patio surrounding by gardens and tree- gorgeous!

Nina was also incredibly helpful, responsive, and flexible throughout the entire process.

Overall, Hollin Hall is a great value for such a beautiful setting.

We worked with Nina at Hollin Hall for over a year leading up to our wedding. She was responsive, full of excellent and valuable suggestions, and an absolute pleasure to work with. She met with us many times during the course of the year, and was very flexible as we set up meetings with our caterer, our musicians, our photographers, etc. She had the answer to every question, and responded to our countless e-mails with patience and grace. Her attention to detail, every single last detail, saved us in several different situations and proved invaluable.

The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous. We used the boxwood garden for our ceremony, and the wisteria arbor and the old house (Hollin Hall) for our reception. It was the perfect setting, and knowing we had the use of the meeting house as a back-up in the event of inclement weather was also a comfort. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with the venue or with Nina. Both were outstanding.

HOLLIN HALL WEDDINGS & EVENTS's reply:

Thank you. It was an absolute pleasure working with you. Nina

Having attended Mount Vernon Unitarian Church as a child I have always known that this was the location for my wedding and reception. The ceremony was held in these gorgeous boxwood gardens. I walked down this long aisle under a flowering rose trellis and the ceremony took place in front of a large white gate. Which set next to the green boxwood was so pretty. The reception took place at Hollin Hall which is a large mansion situated on the property. The reception flowed from inside to the outside. Guests were able to get drinks under a flowering wisteria arbored terrace and meander through the boxwood gardens. Inside of Hollin Hall are beautiful hardwood floors and great windows looking out onto the grounds. Everywhere we went on the property afforded us beautiful pictures. The landscaping lends itself to being a great backdrop for wedding photos. The entire day was perfect and this setting made it all the more special. I would highly recommend a wedding and or reception at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church.

The venue is gorgeous, inside and out. I had my ceremony and reception there. Amanda is fantastic, and she worked hard from start to finish to make sure my wedding was the way I wanted. She is super responsive and helpful. There is plenty of parking, indoor and outdoor space, and tons of picture perfect backdrops. The only downside is there are so many rules. You have to use their caterers (a list of 4) or you're charged extra, no candles, they nickle and dime you for extra hours, etc. I understand they have rules to keep the venue looking as gorgeous as it does, and even with all the rules and red tape Amanda worked with me to achieve the perfect day I was looking for so don't let that deter you from this beautiful space!

This was the most beautiful place for our daughter's wedding. Our family has attended the church on the grounds since she was five but we had considered our venues. However, for the value, convenience and the loveliness of the grounds we chose this site. (Anyone choosing this site should remember - this is a church that is very cherished and cared for.) Ask Amanda - who saved all of us - to show you photos of the 6/18/16 wedding. Beautiful day, ceremony in the garden, reception, dinner and dancing in the chapel. And you're crazy if you don't hire Amanda to coordinate everything. We could not have done it without her.

We could not have asked for a more perfect venue for our day. We could not have been more happy and joyous.

Hollin Hall is a gem. We received a lot of value for our money. They recently renovated their hall lobby area and it came out great. We loved the large circular stained glass window in the hall. Beautiful! Hollin Hall has plenty of parking. Which was important for us. We didn’t want our guest to struggle. The Hall was a perfect size for our 115 guest. Amanda was wonderful. Pleasant, helpful, and always willing to work with us.

Hollin Hall was the perfect venue for our wedding. I can recommend Hollin Hall. “I will have my next wedding there!” Well, actually, I’m gonna just stick with the one wedding.

Hollin Hall is a beautiful venue and suitable for weddings of any size and in any season. I was very impressed with the wedding coordinator - Amanda Casey. She's on top of things and very responsive. If there's any negative, it's that this venue has pretty stringent regulations on when guests and vendors must vacate. (This is due to community policy.) At the time of this writing, events must end by 9 p.m., and vendors must be gone by 10 p.m. Hollin Hall is working to receive a time extension. Not a deal breaker, but something prospective couples should be aware of. If you're looking for a venue that will let you party till midnight or 1 a.m., this probably isn't the place for you.

I have no reservations about my upcoming wedding in November. I am confident Hollin Hall will continue making me a happy bride/wedding planner.

I really appreciate her and the house was simply gorgeous for our reception!! Very convenient and Large bathroom to bustle my dress in. My husband and I were just thrilled to have had our wedding at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church in late May. The outdoor setting for the ceremony was simply beautiful. We used the slate patio instead of the lawn because of heavy rain the night before--but this turned out to be ideal. We were able to be outside, but guests were mostly shaded. The surrounding trees framed the ceremony nicely; it was exactly what we were hoping for. Nina is a sweetheart and was absolutely wonderful to work with throughout the process. She is patient, super nice and responds to questions immediately. (half star off for "quality of service" only because we had a different person supervising on the wedding day who didn't communicate as well.)

Hollin Hall for the reception worked great. It feels more homey and is intimate yet was able to accommodate our 80 guests just fine. We also fit a jazz trio in the foyer and the buffet table in the back room. The layout is flexible. Many guests commented on the beautiful location. The only downside is that some guests got lost getting there--be sure they are armed with good directions and encourage early arrivals. Most of this problem has to do with being in the DC area itself.

Overall, we couldn't have imagined a more perfect setting for the big day. Highly recommended!

Hollin Hall was where I had my wedding reception. It is a beautiful venue and many of my guests commented on how nice and unique a setting it is. Luckily even though it was the end of March the weather was nice so my guests could enjoy the gardens and patio as well.
I would recommend Hollin Hall (the house part of the site) for anyone with a smaller wedding. We had about 70 guests, which was perfect, but if we had many more guests it might have felt pretty cramped even though the capacity is for up to 140.
My wedding venue coordinator was Nina Tisara, although she has since retired and someone else is doing it now. Nina was always great and very prompt about returning my emails and answering my questions. We had to sign a really long, restrictive contract in order to use the venue but as it turned out there was actually some flexibility on some parts of it, which made the day even better.
There were a couple things I didn't like, for example given that the site is in a residential area the music volume has to be pretty low, which made it hard to hear in the back of the house where people were eating, especially when there is conversation. I felt this limited the amount of dancing to some degree. However, given the small size of the venue and the floorplan (it is a house after all), I think it worked out pretty well. I'd recommend this site to anyone with a small wedding who is interested in vintage style weddings.

We highly recommend Hollin Hall for other couples in love. The gardens are gorgeous, the house historic, and the hall was perfectly suited for dancing. It made planning our wedding infinitely easier to have the ceremony and reception in one place and to have tables and chairs for the ceremony, reception, and cocktail hour included in our rental contract. Nina, the venue coordinator, is easy to work with and very responsive to questions. She helped guide us through the last stages of planning by providing a very detailed questionnaire in advance of the walk-through. On the wedding day, family members from 4 generations enjoyed wandering through the beautiful grounds and dancing up a storm in the Meeting Hall. The only thing to be aware of is that there are some strict rules about the use of the grounds, but none of them impaired our ability to have a great day.
