About

A unique venue located in the Catoctin Mountains, where individuals and groups can have an exquisite event in a pristine natural setting. The Lodge and grounds are located 1500 feet up in the Catoctin Mountains. The 155 acre property boasts a rustic timber frame lodge that has a 30-foot stone fireplace, which makes a beautiful backdrop for your wedding and reception.

If you are looking for a natural outdoor setting for your ceremony, Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood is a place you don't want to miss! Offering numerous outdoor ceremony sites, which include: a Pine Cathedral, an arboretum, a rustic barn, stone bridge, a pavilion, pasture areas, a beautiful willow pond or in the winter months in front of a roaring fire in the Lodge. If the forecast is calling rain, at the last minute we can pull the ceremony under a pavilion, in the barn or inside in the Lodge.

Couples have the use of the entire 155-acre property during the 8 hour rental with Mountain Memories and we only host one event per day! All events booked at ThorpeWood are managed by Mountain Memories at ThorpeWood. Mountain Memories is owed and run by Julie Castleman and Assistant Director, Lexi Hartner. Both Julie and Lexi help coordinate the wedding rehearsal and run your wedding day of events so an outside planner is unnecessary, all included in the rental price of the facility. They are a great team and ensure all needs are met as a couple plans most important moments of their lives, while also helping make their wedding dreams a reality.

Julie and the staff at ThorpeWood were five stars in every area. ThorpeWood provided a most beautiful environment for our Men's Retreat. I can't recommend both the location and staff highly enough, and recommend ThorpeWood wholeheartedly.

This was my second time camping with my Girl Scout troop at ThorpeWood. My girls love it there! Our first trip, we set up tents behind the Homestead House in the beautiful wooded setting by the pond. The second time this past October, we slept in sleeping bags inside the Homestead House in front of a roaring fire in the wood stove. What a fun and cozy sleepover for my girls! We also had a great time hiking the trails throughout the property and having a big bonfire with skits and s'mores at the fire circle they have set up near the horse stables. And because we are a non-profit Girl Scout troop, we didn't have to pay anything for this wonderful experience! Thanks to Julie and the rest of her staff for making this one of the many awesome ways ThorpeWood can be used.

We held our annual office retreat at Thorpewood this year. It was the perfect venue for our small group. Such a warm and friendly work space as well as staff.
