User1715068 Sent on 07/16/2014We wanted a violen/piano duo. I loved piano and my now husband loves violen. We loved working with Carla and Daniel- they were by far the most cost effective. They were always prompt to respond. One of our favorite things was going to their basement stuido and hearing them play music for us. Arrived in plenty of time for the reception, professional and I heard they sounded great. I would recommend them.

Jessica Sent on 11/04/2012Carla was very responsive and responded to any questions quickly. They also sent us a CD for the rehearsal so we could practice with the music. They played a live demo to help us pick out the music we wanted at their house. This was very helpful when choosing our songs. They seemed to know the songs we needed and played them well. Also, one thing that bothers me is the timing of the music not being appropriate to the wedding party, but they did an excellent job of making sure the songs were played at the right time. I would definitely recommend them. -
User844681 Sent on 06/28/2012We enjoyed working with Carla and Daniel for our ceremony. They provided the ceremony music and really worked with us to customize the songs and brainstorm on selections. The music was beautiful, and they even have a portable piano they can provide if the venue does not have a piano. -

Stephanie Sent on 07/21/2010Obsidian Duo was excellent. They learned a song that I really wanted played as I walked down the aisle. It was perfect. They also played during our cocktail hour and put our personality into the hour by playing Sweet Home Alabama and the Sex and the City theme song. These were all extra special touches that made our day all the better. They were very reasonably priced and great to work with. I wouldn't have changed a thing! -
User1989671 Sent on 12/30/2014For our ceremony music, we used the Obsidian Duo offered through Candlelight Strings, which included a piano and violin. I was extremely disappointed with the music. We had a Catholic ceremony mass, and our musicians didn't know any of the mass parts. I sent them the music to learn months in advance. The musicians couldn't make our rehearsal, and we were told that we would get a copy of the music to play at the rehearsal, which we never received. They said they would get to the church early to practice with our vocalist, and there were so many problems. They learned a different key to one of the mass parts, so during the mass they just didn't play it. They played pieces that they already knew and were advertised on their website for our processionals (i.e. Canon in D, Here Comes the Bride, etc.), but there were so many mistakes when they were played. I am a musician myself, and I was very disappointed that they had months to prepare the music and several noticeable mistakes were still made. I will say that Carla is flexible with pieces to play during the guest seating time, and she responds to e-mails fairly promptly. I was just very disappointed that there were so many mistakes the day-of when the musicians had months to prepare.Obsidian Duo's reply:
After receiving many compliments on our performance from this couple's friends, relatives, and wedding director, I was very surprised to read this review. The preparation for this particular wedding was required far more time than any other event we played for this year. When I offered to play mass responses, I should have clarified that we learn up to 3 new pieces for an event. The client sent us 8 pieces, one of which was too blurry to read and a replacement copy could not be found. A 9th piece was added on the day of the wedding. We put a lot of time, effort, and our own money in learning these pieces - Purchasing clearer copies and recordings on-line and rehearsing thoroughly with the two vocalists we accompanied. There were a few minor errors, but nothing out of the ordinary for a live musical performance. We also did extra work that we did not charge the clients for, including providing PA and microphones for the two vocalists. Most groups would have charged double our rate for all the extra work and equipment. I would have settled for a simple thank-you. Instead we got this negative review for our extra effort.
