    Fabulous vineyard, location, and scenery

Sunset Hill exceeded our expectations. Emily was on the spot and made everything from planning to the actual wedding day seem easy. Everything turned out beautiful. The price was amazing, the venue became exclusively ours 2 hours prior to our ceremony. Very easy set-up, great vender reccomendations. Extremely LGBT friendly. We would pick this place over and over again. Emily and her staff thought of everything and gave us gentle reminders to keep us on track. The staff was so knowledgeable about the wine that our guest enjoyed learning about and tasting our selections. Emily gave us a spot on table floorplan that made it welcoming and comfortable for all family members and friends. Best place to have a wedding in northern Virginia.

My husband and I knew Sunset Hills was the right place for our May wedding the minute we were greeted at the door. The people who work there are genuinely friendly, Kim & Meredith were super helpful, the venue and setting is beautiful, and the wine is one of the best in Northern VA. From the moment we started our wedding planning, until the day of our wedding, everything was right on with the venue (and Wine)…we couldn't have been more satisfied or happier on our wedding day. The place looked amazing & the staff treated us and our guests wonderfully. We have such great memories of our wedding & Sunset Hills made it possible!

Sunset Hills is such a beautiful site for an outdoor wedding/ indoor reception. The events coordinater Jaclyn was so helpful with any questions I had throughout the planning process and they are so accomodating to all of your needs. We had both the ceremony and reception at the vineyard, it turned out fantastic. I got ready in the chandelier room with my girls, they brought down a bottle of wine and a food spread for us to enjoy before the ceremony. Not to mention, the site has so many options for fantastic photos. They switch out their wines throughout the year and I have tried so many different ones, and loved all of them.

Having our wedding at Sunset Hills was the best thing we could have done. We got married on a Friday which made it slightly cheaper but the views and the staff don't change no matter what day you get married on! Our guests were all from out of town and EVERYONE was amazed at the views, the wine, and the wonderful barn where the reception was held. I can not say enough how happy I was with Sunset Hills. Their staff is always wiling to help, especially Jaclyn which is who we coordinated all of our wedding day plans with. We are so thrilled with how everything turned out with our wedding at Sunset Hills. We would highly recommend it!!! Also. our pictures look amazing with the beautiful scenery!!

Sunset Hills was great to work with. Jaclyn was great during the planning and during the actual wedding. She was a pleasure to work with. The staff and owners were great. The vineyard is a beautiful setting and a great place to have a wedding.

I was thrilled with Sunset Hills as my ceremony/reception venue. The property is beautiful and immaculately maintained, and they have been and continue to make improvements to it. The barn is stunning and absolutely gorgeous both inside and out; it was even prettier at night during the reception with the lights on to really show off the wood. All of my guests were really impressed with the place - most everyone commented on it. One of my bridesmaids put it best: "This is a place you would want to come and hang out anyway; it's not a place that you would only go to in order to attend an event." I scouted 20 locations in person in and around the DC metro area in Northern Virginia including seven other vineyards before settling on Sunset Hills. I chose it over all the others, because (a) it's so beautiful, and while some of the other vineyards and historic houses might have a slightly better view, Sunset Hills still comes very close and outweighed the other venues in other categories, (b) many of the other venues require you to rent a tent and hold everything outdoors, and I didn't want to have to worry about rain/mud/thunderstorms/heat, which was a wise choice, as it did rain on my wedding day and the ground was soaked from a downpour the day before as well, (c) their wine is very good, which is important, because most all of the vineyards permit you to drink their wine only (and possibly mixed drinks), and there are a few vineyards that I ruled out on that basis, (d) I decided I wanted a slightly more informal and fun, yet still classy feel for my wedding; the barn is perfect for that, and is a place where men are more likely to feel comfortable versus some of the more foofoo, girly places, (e) their prices were about in line (and slightly lower than) other similar facilities, although I suspect they might start going up as they get more experience doing weddings(, having only been in the business for about a year), (f) it's only about 1/2 hour from Dulles airport, and I had a lot of out-of-town guests; I ended up putting everyone up at a hotel near the airport with a free airport shuttle, and I hired a 55-passenger bus fairly inexpensively to get people to and from the wedding so people wouldn't have to rent cars, and (g) great people work at Sunset Hills from the vineyard owners, Diane and Mike, to the events coordinator, Jaclyn, to the wine pourers; everyone who works there is very calm and accommodating and no one was anything but pleasant both to me and to my guests - I have heard horror stories of some places that are nice to you just long enough to take your money, but there was none of that at Sunset Hills.

I had no problems with Sunset Hills leading up to the wedding day or the day of. I met with Diane and Jaclyn several times at the vineyard and we also had joint sessions with my caterer, and I was able to resolve most of my questions and issues via e-mail, generally in a very timely fashion. I ended up buying an extra hour of reception time for $250, which worked out well since I had both my ceremony and reception at the vineyard, and I didn't want to cut too much into the dance time. So I had the place from 5:30 - 11:30 pm with the ceremony at 6 pm. I also ordered 15, different 8-oz blocks of Amish cheese from them, which they served during cocktail hour to anyone who came up to the bar to get a wine tasting. The garlic and smoked cheeses are particularly amazing, and many guests commented on the cheeses - try them if you get a chance! In terms of wine, I had about 95 guests, and they only drank about $1000 of wine at around $20 a bottle; I had thought it would be more, but just to give you an idea. I also used their Nettare di Tramonto dessert wine instead of champagne for the toasts, and people went wild over it - much better and more interesting than champagne. In terms of number of guests, 95 was a very good number for the venue; it would have seemed crowded if there had been any more guests, as we used the loft upstairs for the DJ and for a photo booth for guests to get pictures of themselves taken. In any case, I wouldn't go with more than 120 guests maximum. In terms of the rehearsal dinner, Sunset Hills has a beautiful chandelier room downstairs that might fit around 20 people; however, I took the easy route and just went to Magnolia's at the Mill Restaurant about 3 miles away, which I was happy with. The rehearsal itself was the day before the wedding, and the vineyard had a guitarist playing in the barn during the our rehearsal out on the lawn, but they had informed me of that before, and it wasn't a problem. Another nice plus about Sunset Hills - they have a large flatscreen on the wall which they let me use to play a wedding slideshow of baby and family photographs throughout the reception; some DJ's offer the service, but for a fee.

My experience with Sunset Hills was a pleasure, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them; in fact, get them while the getting's good! I think this is going to turn into a wedding hotspot once the word gets out. Rather than a wedding factory like some of the other venues seemed to be, this venue gave more of a family feel; the vineyard owner was in attendance at my wedding and helped with the event to make sure everything went well, and I felt like all the staff cared about the day being a great one for me and for the guests.

Only a few minor hiccups as the owners of this beautiful vineyard & barn worked out the kinks to managing events in their first season. Mike & Diane were very accommodating and each person we dealt with was professional and attentive. The venue was a major part of our wedding and we feel very fortunate to have been able to have our wedding at Sunset Hills on a gorgeous autumn day.

Sunset Hills is one of the most beautiful vineyards I have seen in VA. The view is amazing and the tasting room is beautiful. They have a lot of rules as to protect the hard work they put into the tasting room so keep that in mind. Jaclyn, their event coordinator is fantastic. She is very responsive and will answer all your questions. She has done a lot of weddings there so she will help make your day go smoothly. It's a very beautiful place for an outdoor wedding and a great plan B just in case it rains. I used almost all of their recommended vendors who were all outstanding.

We got lots and lots of compliments on the venue. I think we created a lot of Sunset Hills fans. Their wine is really good, esp. the white wine, which I don't even like usually!

Sunset Hills is a beautiful place to hold a wedding! We've had many compliments from our guests on this venue and how gorgeous it was. The wine is also DELICIOUS and everyone loved it!!! We enjoyed working with Jaclyn (the events coordinator) throughout the entire process as well. She seemed very organized and always stayed in touch with us and responded to emails/calls quickly.

The only issue we ran into with this location was the day of our wedding. Unfortunately, at the last minute it started to rain (heavily) and we had to move our ceremony indoors. This wouldn't have been a problem except that Sunset Hills still had regular customers in the winery, which made setting up for our reception (as well as transitioning the ceremony from outside to inside) kind of difficult and chaotic for a while. Once this concern was addressed and the winery was cleared out everything moved very quickly and the staff did ultimately help us create a wonderful evening! Other than this short-lived issue we loved everything about this venue and were very pleased with this location!

Sunset Hills Vineyard is a beautiful venue for a wedding. We immediately loved the feel and beauty of the restored barn. While looking at multiple other local venues, I found this to be the absolute best deal for what we were looking for. We had an outdoor ceremony overlooking the vines, our cocktail hour out on the lower porch during sunset and our reception inside. It was a big relief to have a completely indoor reception because I was worried about what would happen at other venues with a tent in the event of rain. Plus, reception tables and chairs were included and they have a great sound system. We decided not to hire a DJ and plugged our MP3 player in with a playlist and had no problems.

Unlike the previous reviewer, our experience with the staff was a bit rocky. It started out great, but a few months after we signed the contract, the event planner we had been working with no longer was there. She sent me an email to notify me, but I had to be the one to contact the venue to make sure our plans were still in tact. Although all of our concerns and needs were eventually addressed, we were disappointed because we felt like we were the last priority because the owner, Diane was extremely busy. In the end, we met with the new event planner, Jaclyn the day of the wedding and she was fantastic. So I would definetly recommend this venue in the end and I think maybe we just had a somewhat difficult experience while planning because of the staff changes.

Sunset Hills Vineyard is a lovely setting. We did both our ceremony and reception there and they had everyone cleared out to their alternative tasting site by 3 PM. The event coordinator Jaclyn was wonderful, helpful, responsive and understanding. After some doubts about SHV's professionalism having gone through 2 event coordinators in less than 6 months and their general unresponsiveness I had some concerns. But after meeting with Jaclyn and talking with her I felt better and my confidence was restored. The staff was wonderful and accommodating the day of and everything went off without a hitch.
