    Exceeded our expectations

Superior Shores was everything we had hoped for and more! Beautiful setting on the lake for our ceremony, a large ballroom that is set up perfectly for a bigger group, and many hotel rooms for guests to stay in. The staff was accommodating, and the food was fantastic.
We had our rehearsal dinner in the ballroom Friday and set up the night before. Everything was so organized. I keep saying our wedding was perfect because it truly exceeded our expectations. We are so happy we chose this resort as our venue.

The resort and staff at superior shores follow suit with the name of the place, SUPERIOR LOCATION AND SERVICE. My wife and I were able to contact the staff and plan our wedding down to the last detail. The staff and resort were more than accommodating to our guests and our individual needs. The food was spectacular- and the service was top quality. I can not imagine us having our reception anywhere else. The venue was beautiful and clean, the ball room was set up for us down to the last detail. The patio was set up to accommodate our guests comfortably and there were even lawn games displayed for family fun! The wedding coordinator and resort manger were in contact with me every time I beckoned within ours of my question. They were present throughout the night to help us coordinate the cake, dinner, music, and dance and were always helpful with advice and were very respectful of our wishes. After the wedding the staff nicely assisted in keeping our belongings from the night before organized and safe until we were able to retrieve them. The venue, food, and service from the staff were nothing short of spectacular. I have heard from at least half of our guests that our reception was one of the most beautiful and well done receptions they had ever attended. Thank you so much for making this day one of the most wonderful days of our lives!!! - Sarah and Amy

Having our wedding at Superior Shores Resort was AMAZING! Our staff loved the resort and everything about it. The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the stay was great. Jenna was phenomenal with all of her help coordinating the wedding. She made every step easy along the way and was always available when I needed her. She was fast to respond to every email and willing to help with every and all changes needed. Thank you Jenna and the rest of the resort for making our wedding day one to remember. As everyone else stated - Best Wedding Ever!

We love superior shores and wanted to share some pictures that captured the outdoor beauty. There was nothing better than having your wedding next to the crashing waves of Lake Superior.

Superior Shores is unlike any other wedding venue. The staff are kind, responsive, transparent, enthusiastic, and tremendously flexible. Jenna, Sam, and their team went out of their way to make some of our more curveball ideas work, like swapping ceremony chairs for beach blankets, and hosting a barbecue and lawn games on the grassed area the night before our wedding. The true show-stopper was Lake Superior. In case getting married on a smooth pebble beach feet from the lake wasn't perfect enough, we had a charismatic river otter playing in the shallow water to entertain our guests as they waited for the ceremony to start. We had zero hidden charges, great table and bar service, and rave reviews from our guests about their experience at the resort. We and many of our guests will be returning!!

    Perfect Lake Wedding Venue

If you want to get married on the water and avoid the craziness of a city weekend for you and your guests, Superior Shores Resort is the venue for you. My husband and I got married here. It is a quaint location yet only a few miles from Two Harbors (for those last minute grocery or personal items). It is also large enough to accommodate a reasonable wedding size (many locations on Lake Superior can only accommodate less than 100 guests). Our guest count was about 190 and Superior Shores easily accommodated this. We also loved that there was "a room for everyone" in regards to our guests. There are hotel style rooms that are more budget friendly as well as beautiful suits that your guests can stay in! Our guests loved hanging out in their suites (which have 2 bedrooms, kitchen, large living area, balcony with beautiful views of Lake Superior) through out the wedding weekend. Everyone could be together yet not on top of each other. We also loved that our entire weekend festivities were at one location (bonfire on the beach Friday night, ceremony on the beach Saturday, reception in ballroom on Saturday and a good bye coffee on the lawn Sunday). It made it so much less stressful for my husband and I and our guests continue to comment on how relaxing of a weekend it was! Jenna is the contact person for weddings and is AMAZING. She is laid back with good humor yet pays close attention to details. We miss her now that our wedding is over and cannot wait to go back to stay for the weekend and see her again!

    Superior Shores Resort's reply:

Thanks, Sonia!! We'll be here to snuggle that baby of yours! Happiest of anniversaries :)
We appreciate your review and we can't wait to see you!

Great location. Venue is on the lake and the staff know what they are doing and have experience providing everything needed, or if they do not have it, they have resources they can point you towards. Staff are good people and very professional. Lodge is a nice place to stay. They are willing to work with couples on all their needs. Location is also pet friendly. Off-season weddings can find a real gem in terms of affordability vs value as long as you are willing to be flexible around seasonal weather conditions.

My wife and I wanted a North Shore wedding and Superior Shores exceeded all expectations! Jenna, Sam, and the rest of their staff we unbelievably helpful and flexible. They helped us every step of the way and were always available for questions. The kitchen made multiple walleye dishes for us to choose from and the food was amazing, both the groom's dinner and reception. We were unable to have the wedding on the beach since it was winter, but we had the ceremony and reception in the ballroom. The amazing staff flipped the entire room in less than the hour we had the receiving line and cocktail hour at the upstairs bar! We had multiple guest comment on how friendly and helpful the staff was and it was one of the nicest weddings they have been to. We highly recommend Superior Shores to anyone, especially in the winter as it is more beautiful with a layer of fresh snow!

The Superior Shores Resort had a very appealing cabin feel that I loved. The view from the Banquet hall was beautiful, and all the guests loved it. The service of the Event Manager was very professional. The food that was catered, by the resort, was phenomenal!! Overall, I highly recommend this venue for a banquet dinner, or social hour.

Superior Shores did an excellent job with helping me plan my wedding from a distance. Ryan was fantastic at answering my questions and making sure everything I needed was done. My ceremony on the beach was beautiful, the food was FANTASTIC! Everyone raved about how it was the best wedding food they have had, especially for a buffet. My guests had a great stay at the resort and so did we! If you are looking for a destination wedding on the north shore, I highly reccommend them!

My husband and I had an incredible wedding with family and friends at Superior Shores Resort.

The VIEWS are the best, we walked the trails and skipped rocks on the beach with our wedding party and photographers before hand. The Northern MN weather cooperated, so we had a pretty perfect, sunny/some clouds, 70s weather day in June on the lake. The back drop of our ceremony was simply amazing - a nice rocky beach, white chairs, our own wood arbor, the lake and sunny/blue skies.

We had a social hour on the lawn before heading into the resort hall for our reception. The lawn was filled with family/friends, beer filled kayaks, and bean bag toss. Then we danced the night away inside, didn't run out of food, and the drinks lasted up until the very end :)

We snuck out for some 'perfect dusk lighting' pictures on the bridge over the creek, and smooches at the lake. And to top it all off our party continued at the bonfires on the lake after our time was up inside. We only stayed for a little while but we're told our family/friends all enjoyed the fire, each others company, the location, and someone even brought a guitar!

My only word of warning would be to figure out the best mode of communication early on. Emailing was efficient, we always heard back with plenty of time, but we did find out that texting would've been best for our coordinator.

Overall, wouldn't change anything for the world. Superior Shores was incredible and I highly recommend it to anyone for there wedding. Cheers!

We don't live close to Superior Shores, so was a little hard relying on just email for all of the questions and things came up. But other wise I am pleased with the service we received, and the entire staff was very friendly.
The food was good ( specially the candied brussel sprouts ). And they were very helpful with some of our older guests who had issues getting around.
The outdoor is lovely weather permitting. I have heard some of our guests plan on going back for their own trips.

Lovely Venue, A Bit Lacking in Communication

First and foremost, Superior Shores is gorgeous. Even on a rainy and snowy weekend like ours, guests will still awe at the scenery and enjoy their views. I encourage you to do whatever you can to have the ceremony outdoors or at least take pictures outdoors! The ceremony room is a nice size for large parties and does not feel cramped. They do a nice job accommodating special requests. We had dueling pianos, which was a ton of fun. All in all it's really nice to have all your guests in the same location as your wedding and ceremony. Food is decent and is priced decently (although they did increase pricing between time of booking and choosing the menu)

Unfortunately our experience was met with several difficulties. First, there are a few front desk individuals who do not seem to have a great grasp on how to choose and book rooms for wedding guests. What we were not told upfront was that there was construction going on through a large portion of the main Lodge rooms. This should not have been a problem, but the staff mistakenly booked my husband's parents and his grandmother in a room that was under construction. This also happened to other guests. They were not aware of this until walking into a room that was totally torn apart. The elevators also broke while the majority of guests were unloading luggage. Thankfully the staff worked through the situation, but it should never have happened in the first place. It made for a great deal of stress which should not be happening on your wedding day.

I bet our situation was unusual, though, so I encourage you to consider it if looking for a very outdoorsy and gorgeous setting. Just want to make you aware of the poor customer service in terms of the construction.

    Great Views

We booked this venue very last minute (43 days before our wedding day) after our original venue cancelled due to Covid. Overall we were so happy how the day turned out but that was more because of the fall colors, the weather, and the guests that were able to come. We heard positive reviews on the rooms and grounds. No one really mentioned the food. We thought it was ok.
During the process Rebecca was very responsive and returned our emails and phone calls right away (which we did not experience with a lot of vendors so we were so grateful for this). We did hear "No" a lot to some of our requests or "we are short staff", "we have new management/owners so we are no longer doing that", "we can't because of the all the guests that will be here that weekend for fall colors". The resort was definitely concerned about inconveniencing their other guests that were there for fall colors even though we were also guests of the resort. We do realize that Covid has put a lot of pressure and strain on businesses and I guess they were doing the best they could.
I researched other weddings that had took place there and found out with the new owners they have raised the room rates a good amount, no longer have decorations to rent (other then an arbor), and no longer have heat lamps for the patio area.
One thing in particular that was extremely frustrating was trying to plan a rehearsal dinner. In the end we took our business that night to Clearwater Grille and Event Center which we highly recommend (very flexible and food was excellent).
Really we picked this place 1. because they had our original date open 2. for the great views and the beach ceremony location. With ample time to plan something we probably would have gone somewhere else.

Venue was especially beautiful. We did a lot of the prep work though, bring in most of the decorations. If you looking for a place that supplies everything Superior shores is not it, if you just want a beautiful place to get married and do the leg work yourself it's awesome. If your a planner and have everything organized, no problem. Cheap venue to start with, but nickle and dime you to death for everything else. You have to use all their catering, which includes all food, drink, alcohol, etc. Food was delicious, normally buffet style food is not that memorable but this was great. Coordinator was very helpful and prompt, staff not so much.

    Superior Shores Resort's reply:

    Hi Shawn,
Thanks for the kind words; we really do have a beautiful ceremony site! Superior Shores Resort does not offer decorating services, this is true. We do have an extensive list of vendors that are experts in their trade; this has been helpful to many couples. We do have additional charges for extras, including chairs on the beach; this is so couples that get married in area churches can forgo that charge, or so you can determine how many chairs you want, or so that we have a monetary amount to refund you if there is inclement weather and we do not set up the chairs on the beach - we have always been very up front with all additional charges; there are not many, but you can design your wedding around these add-ons as you wish, for your special day. We do require our couples to use our on-site restaurant for catering; I think that is pretty par for the course for any resort that has an Executive Chef. Again, that information has always been given up front. I appreciate your comments about the food and your experience, and we certainly hope to have you back!
