On the varied journey of booking and planning your wedding, the food and the venue are going to generally be your biggest expense. You look around and you talk to potential caterers and talk about what YOU want - and some will not be flexible, thoughtful or give you the impression that they want your business :)
As soon as i spoke to James at Rhinecliff and he and his team sent back the first iteration of our menus, we were sold. They had listened, incorporated all the elements we asked for (and we had some pretty interesting dietary needs :) ), were so helpful and responsive and could handle the Rehearsal, Wedding Breakfast and Brunch elements perfectly.
When we traveled up for the tasting, we were hopeful that the food standard would be of the same standard! We were immensely happy to see that the food we were served was, in fact, even better than we hoped. Every course was exceptional. The service and way we were treated was of such an amazing level, we were blown away.
To know that all the guests we had invited would be able to eat this food was such an amazing feeling :) To know, furthermore, that those with different dietary requirement, or those with food allergies, were going to have such an amazing range of choices (often not the case!) made us so happy.
And on the weekend, James and his wonderful team delivered the service with class, quiet confidence and added so much to the experience. We cannot thank you ll enough for your part in our happy day - and we can't recommend Rhinecliff Event Catering highly enough for your special day!Rhinecliff Event Catering's reply:

It has been a pleasure working with James and the whole Rhinecliff staff for rhinecliff catering (outside of the rhinecliff hotel)! From start to finish, they made my wedding dreams come true! They were able to come into my very tight budget, and offer up reasonable suggestions by laying out pros/cons. Both tastings were incredible and we even stayed one night at the hotel for our initial tasting! They also were amazing the day-of, making sure everyone had what they needed, when they needed it. Special shout out to the staff for always bringing me water with my beer, and for getting us appetizers while we're waiting to come in. Can't say enough good things. Best decision i made was working with them! -

This city-dwelling bridal couple loved James and his staff, and our guests did, too! Rhinecliff catered our recent Catskills wedding, and the food was incredible! We knew it would be - our sampling and tasting experiences were divine, and the food was scrumptious both times. Our guests especially loved the locally sourced Charcuterie Table (it was such a big hit, they devoured the ENTIRE THING), and the passed hor dourves. Just like Vince Vaughn stated in Wedding Crashers, you must have crab cakes at a wedding and theirs were fantastic. Dinner was great, too! The short rib was the standout winner among the selections but all were good. Also, the goat cheese and beet salad was amazing; not your standard wedding salad. As a bride and groom, it was a relief to work with a chef who had SO MANY DELICIOUS OPTIONS to choose from, even for our vegan/vegetarian guests. And can’t forget the desserts. Great selection of bite sized desserts. The gluten-free, salted caramel brownies are a can’t-miss. If you’re looking for New York City quality dining in Hudson Valley or beyond, look no further. Run, don’t walk, to Rhinecliff to check out James and his catering operation. -
Kate Sent on 03/04/2018Amy and her team were absolutely amazing! From the first moment we met Amy for a tour of the Rhinecliff I knew I'd we'd have a great experience having our wedding there. Super responsive, helpful and accommodating. The venue staff took care of everything day of and allowed my new husband and I to enjoy the day we'd prepared for without worrying about all of the small things. Thank you so much Amy and crew for a day we'll never forget!

User1800690 Sent on 09/08/2014The Rhinecliff did a beautiful job. Before booking, after reading reviews, i knew that responsiveness might be an issue but i was totally okay with that. I live locally, so when i needed to come into contact with them, I would simply stop by the hotel. It's a small boutique hotel, and they really do make sure to give whatever event they are having that day or guests that are staying there 110%. Everything went great on our wedding day from start to finish, and food was delicious, all of guests commented on it. And the bridal suite, AMAZING!! Soooo beautiful!!! There was one little mishap the next morning when we went to pick up our anniversary cake from them, but it was easily rectified. -

Shantal Sent on 07/21/2018The Rhinecliff Hotel is located in a beautiful spot next to the Hudson River, with river views and sleek, modern hotel rooms. The food is top-notch. We received many compliments about our wedding menu from our guests. They also have generous policy re: full bar service.
The staff was accommodating from start to finish. They were patient with our questions and changes. They were organized and prepared on the day of our wedding.
This is a stylish river setting perfect for a small to medium-sized wedding. I highly recommend The Rhinecliff.

We absolutely loved working with James, Sharon, and their team at Rhinecliff Event Catering. We cannot recommend them enough. Let's be honest, most of the time when you think of wedding food, you don't think it's going to be good--but their food was delicious. They were so accommodating and tailored the menu to be exactly what we wanted it to be.

I can't say enough great things about this team. From the hospitality they provided us for our two tastings and flexibility when COVID hit, they were so supportive and willing to do the most to make sure our day went off without a hitch. Not only was the food great, but we received multiple compliments from our guests about how impressed they were with Rhinecliff's service. They truly went above and beyond and I was so happy we chose them to be with us on our big day! -

We went with Mediterranean food for our wedding, we were a bit worry about how it would be received but everyone loved it. Everything tasted amazing, Chef James did an outstanding job. The waitstaff was great. The bartenders kept the drinks flowing and tasting fantastic. -

We loved working with James and Sharon at Rhinecliff catering for our wedding at Stone Tavern Farm. They had worked at the venue a lot and made everything super easy. They provided a wonderful and fun tasting before we booked them. They also provided a second tasting once we had made our initial menu selections. They were super flexible and allowed us to bring some of our own desserts (pittsburgh cookie table and our good friends ice cream) and set everything up for us. They also went above and beyond for some special requests like edible flowers for prosecco. All our guests were please with the food and the family style method was great for our large crowd. The staff kept the wine flowing and brough seconds of anything that each table ate up quickly. Everything was beautifully presented as well and the bartenders were on top of it. -
Chanjala Sent on 10/29/2017We used Rhinecliff to cater our wedding and it was a painful experience. When we first started got in touch with them, they were very responsive and the event coordinator assigned to us was great. The initial tasting went well and we decided to use them and put down a deposit.
But then they had some staff turnover, our event coordinator left Rhinecliff and it all went downhill as they never reached out to us to let us know that she had left the company. We had initially planned to hire only a day-of coordinator for the wedding and handle the rest of the planning ourselves. But after several frustrating weeks of trying to get in touch with Rhinecliff via email/phone to get clarity on details of the event, we caved and hired a wedding coordinator to help us. Their backoffice was extremely unresponsive and when we did manage to get hold of them gave us conflicting / incorrect information and were generally a mess. For instance - on the menu they provided, instead of printing our names, they printed my husbands first and last name. So our wedding coordinator had to trim the top part of every menu to get rid of the names entirely.
The staff at the actual restaurant though was great. Everyone we met when we went in for our final tasting was friendly and helpful. Tom who handled our tasting and was the main server at our event was fantastic. He was funny, chatted with all our guests everyone commented on how great he was.
The food was delicious during the tastings and we were really excited about our choices. At the wedding however, the food was cold (we did buffet style) and the setup was disappointing. It lacked any sort of pleasing appearance and food was just laid out on the tables in disposable plates.
Overall, when we look back at the wedding planning and all our vendors, our experience with Rhinecliff was the most frustrating and disappointing. The only reason they even get 3 stars is because of the servers who did a great job.

I used James and Rhinecliff for my wedding in 2019. Thought everything was going to be good after the tasting and everything else that led up to wedding day. We warned James beforehand that the main thing we were concerned about was them running out of alcohol for the open bar. We stressed this multiple times leading up to the wedding and were assured we'd be fine. Well LESS THAN AN HOUR into the wedding, most of the hard alcohol was gone and they had to leave to go and get more causing huge lines at the bar.
Second, the cocktail hour food table was constantly bare with us getting complaints from guests about the amount of food. Same thing happened with dinner. We got a 10+ complaints from guests that there wasn't enough food on their table.
Now to why I'm leaving a review 4 years later... Afterwards, James agreed to refund us a small portion of what we paid because of all of the issues. I was given multiple dates of when he would pay us, a laundry list of excuses why he was delayed, etc. I offered him whatever payment plan he wanted and even agreed to take less at one point to which he refused. Well fast forward 4 years and we haven't been paid back and James has ghosted us completely. So not only did he screw us on the biggest day of our lives, he screwed us on paying us back what he owes.
