Beautiful Venue in an Amazing Location

Beautiful venue in a great location! We had our wedding reception here and Laure and her team were amazing to work with. We had an intimate destination wedding, which was followed by a home reception the weekend after. Hence, it was a crazy, few weeks leading up to our event. Laure herself got in touch with all our vendors and made sure everyone was set for the event. We really appreciate her and all that she did for us and accommodating our requests. The ballroom was nice and spacious and the hallway right outside the ballroom was a beautiful setting to host the cocktail. We also set up our photo booth in the hallway which attracted many guests. The guestrooms are also very nice and comfortable. Overall, we were very pleased with our event and stay at the Westin. We knew we were in good hands working with Laure and definitely would recommend the Westin!

    Treated like royalty!

We got engaged during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. When we were ready to start planning, picking a venue was one of our first big decisions. We live in San Diego, CA and were planning our wedding in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area. We looked at dozens of venues in the area but were quite smitten right away with the Westin in Alexandria. Unable to fly out to Virginia to physically view the venue before booking it, we were offered a Zoom session with Laure. Laure went out of her way to show us the lobby, hospitality suite, ceremony and reception areas and all other areas that guests would see. We loved it so much we booked it shortly after. We traveled out to Virginia in January 2022 and saw the venue and met with one of Laure's colleagues (Laure was out sick but still coordinated in her absence) and we loved it even more in person! We had our tasting in March 2022 and the staff made it such a lovely and fun experience that we were able to have with our families. As we arrived for the week of our wedding, we were wowed by the staff in so many ways:
Overall Hospitality of staff: from greeting us as we came down the lobby, in the hallways etc. all of the staff was warm and helpful and we did not have one negative experience. Kudos to the front desk staff and valet staff who were very courteous not only to us but all of our guests as they entered and exited the hotel.
    - Attentiveness: Staff were kind and ensured that all of our needs were met. The shuttle driver and other staff also noted that we were the bride and groom and were very kind and offered many congratulatory wishes.
    - Charcuterie boards & wine to VIPs: Laure arranged for my father, mother and husband's immediate family to receive amenities which was such a wonderful gesture. They are still talking about how special this made them feel.
    - VIP upgrades: My mother has visual impairments so typically likes lower floors and at first could not understand why she was being placed on a higher floor than she initially wanted. However, after the front desk let her know they were informed not to change her room and she went to her room and saw the lovely upgraded room, she was so thrilled. My parents are in their mid 70s and the joy and happiness on their faces as the Westin made them feel so special was a moment I will never forget.
-Bartenders and servers during cocktail hour and reception: INCREDIBLE! We keep hearing how kind and lively the bartenders were during the reception and cocktail hour. My husband and I knew that we wanted a great venue but also great music and drinks all night and the Westin bartenders were amazing!!! Plus the servers during the reception were incredible.
-Location, cleanliness and ambiance: All of our guests kept raving about the location, cleanliness and ambiance of the hotel. It was truly wonderful that our guests enjoyed their travels and the hotel while celebrating our love.
-Assistance with guest reservations: Laure graciously and patiently assisted with troubleshooting booking issues before the wedding and ensuring all of our guests and VIPs were booked and had what they needed.
-Communication: We truly appreciated the prompt and clear communication from Laure on what we needed to do and any outstanding information.

Overall we were very pleased with the wedding venue and how everything came together so beautifully. It exceeded our expectations in every way and solidified that we made the right choice in entrusting the Westin Alexandria and you to be the face of our big day. Laure truly went above and beyond in every way and we are so thankful for her! Chris and I and our guests literally are STILL talking about the wedding DAILY and how everything was so amazing. It was a dream come true and we will definitely be recommending the venue to other loved ones looking for a wedding venue in the area.

Great service and excellent hotel venue

Would absolutely recommend working with Laure and having a wedding at the Westin Old Town to any couple. Laure and the whole staff were welcoming and professional. During the planning process, she was extremely responsive and I appreciated her handling questions not only from me but our vendors (and my mother haha). Having the hotel handle set up and clean up, the bar, menu (you do a tasting in advance to select your appetizers and dinner), etc., was a huge benefit to getting married at the Westin. We also used several vendors that the hotel recommended and they were all great. The hotel itself is really nice – all the rooms were great and the event space is really well kept. Laure, and the whole staff, made our event weekend wonderful from when guests checked in through our brunch in the restaurant the next morning.

Committed People Can Make a Difference

We did not go with the Westin Alexandria as our wedding venue, but we had such a wonderful experience with their Catering Sales Manager, David Magsumbol, that felt it necessary to comment on his manner and professionalism. David went out of his way just to meet us (on a Sunday afternoon) because of our busy schedules during the week. He took us through every nook and cranny of the Westin Alexandria, highlighting all the things he could do for US and all the things he could help US with. The entire focus of the tour was how he could help us and all the great things that the Westin had to offer for our specific tastes. His experience, professionalism and desire to ensure that the quality of what he was selling was top notch was so obvious that it was quite a hard choice not going with the Westin. If anyone has been looking at venues in the area and haven't been satisfied with the people you've worked with, look no further for the idea of quality than David at the Westin in Alexandria.

The Westin Alexandria Old Town's reply:

    Dear Joel and Amanda,
Thank you for such kind words and for taking the time to write them. While I am disappointed that I would be part of your wedding day, I am sure that you found a perfect fit and know that you have my best wishes!
    David

    Amazing Team, Wonderful Wedding!

We hired the Westin back in October to host our May 2021 Wedding Reception and we know that we made the BEST decision. To start, Laure Politzer is a gem! She was our hotel coordinator from the start of this process to the end and we couldn't be happier. Because of Indoor capacity covid restrictions in the DMV area, we had to make SEVERAL changes through the planning process and at every unexpected turn, Laure was willing and able to make it work. In the end we had TWO (Yes, two!!) back to back 50 person receptions in the same evening and Laure made it work with military precision! It was an INCREDIBLE feat. Both groups had a lot of fun and the spaces were beautiful (florals and decor done by Tilbury Floral). Laure's attention to detail and communication is also second to none. If I emailed Laure so would respond lightning fast! And even if she didn't have a complete answer she would reply to acknowledge receipt and then follow up with me.

There are so many things that happened at the Westin to make our celebrations comfortable and special. Our parents were upgraded to lovely rooms, we had the presidential wedding suite to dress and stay in, we had a custom monogram projected in the lobby, and the staff was so nice (we were always greeted hospitably and every wedding guest that mentioned the hotel said how lovely and luxurious their stay was!).

The hotel also has impeccable Covid standards and is extremely clean. We felt completely safe all weekend.

Shout out to Chef Joe who created a delicious menu for us. At our tasting he walked us through every dish and was open to and food requests. He was so nice and really made us feel like we were valued friends or family members.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience and would recommend the Westin to any bride and groom who want a hotel wedding. Thank you Westin Team!!

The Westin really made us feel like VIPs all weekend and going with this hotel was one of the best decisions we could have made.

If I could give more stars I would. We had our reception at the Westin and we could not be more satisfied with the service we received here. David, the catering director, is absolutely wonderful. We didn't have to worry about anything all weekend because we knew our party was in his very capable hands. I would 100% recommend David, his team and the Westin for your wedding.

We had a cocktail party at the Westin the night before my daughter's wedding. I have never had such a good experience planning anything as i did here at the Westin. David was the planner and he is the best. He chose the Hopkins Room which is really three rooms that have beautiful natural lighting with wall to wall windows and a good view. He gave such great guidance choosing the appetizers, how they would be presented and every other aspect of the event. He is so knowledgeable and made himself available all the time. The party was absolutely lovely. The purpose was for all the wedding guests from all over the country to meet ahead of the wedding and get to know each other. The food was absolutely delicious and the bartender was friendly and fabulous. David is a real gem. He takes the worry right out of any event. I was able to completely enjoy the night along with my guests. He checked with me many times during the planning and also after the event and helped me out with anything I needed and was flexible about any changes as well. I highly recommend this venue for any event.

I hired The Westin Alexandria within 6 weeks of my wedding date to plan the reception and dinner for my guests. My now husband and I worked directly with David Magsumbol at The Westin, and I can’t say enough good things about David. He was totally awesome to work with and he really knows his stuff, not to mention he had the best way of calming the bride down when she got flustered. ;) But seriously, I (the bride) planned my own wedding, but I couldn’t have done it without the help and dedication of David. He was instrumental in making my wedding reception a success. Not only is he very personable, but he is extremely professional as well. I can’t say enough good things about him. I will always be grateful for his help throughout the process; he was awesome to work with! And he made the reception area look beautiful. Everything was perfect! I would highly recommend The Westin Alexandria for any bride and groom’s wedding/reception venue.

The Westin Alexandria Old Town's reply:

Thanks so much for taking the time to make this review, and for your kind words. Honestly, I hear such nice things, but from my side, I just think that what we do is to be expected....after all, this is one of the most important days of your life. It is a complete honor to be able to participate in each and every wedding.

For our wedding weekend this past March, we used the Westin Alexandria for our wedding hotel block, a welcome reception, and as a backup for our wedding reception venue.

Although we did not end up having our wedding reception here, during a crisis with our actual reception venue we worked with David to prepare a back-up reception plan at the Westin. This was during the final few weeks before our wedding! David is WONDERFUL. We cannot thank him enough for his friendliness and patience during a very stressful time. His professionalism and fast communication in helping us make a contingency plan was perfect and we were very grateful for his flexibility.

As noted, we also had our wedding hotel block set up with the Westin, and hosted our guests at a welcome-happy hour in the Westin's restaurant, Trademark, the night before the wedding, which is a unique and classy space. The happy hour was excellent, and the food and drink delicious. Service for the wedding block during the wedding weekend was great. They even left us champagne and strawberries in the bridal suite the night of our wedding!

Overall we highly recommend using David's services for wedding or other events at the Westin, as well as use of the Westin for your wedding block and its restaurant Trademark.

I work as a professional wedding planner and, when a friend of mine was getting married, naturally I wanted to help plan and coordinate her wedding so her and her fiance would not have to hire somebody for this task. Throughout her year-long engagement, as with all of my couples, I would reach out to her to discuss the next steps in the planning process and let her know I'm available if she has any questions, concerns or needs any help. To summarize, she barely needed my help with anything, which I originally wrote off as, "Wow, she's just super organized and wants to plan her wedding out in its entirety - I will just be there to coordinate the wedding, then." It wasn't until the month-of, as we worked out a detailed wedding timeline including who is responsible for what tasks on the day-of, did I realize why she didn't need my help: It was because of the Westin Alexandria.

Almost all of my usual tasks as a wedding coordinator were listed under what their venue coordinator, David, would be responsible for. At first, I thought there might have been a mistake in the task assignments. Nope.

On the morning-of, the unthinkable happened: I came down with a severe infection. I rushed to the ER where they promptly told me I wouldn't be going anywhere. Despite my personal struggles, I worried more that I couldn't attend the wedding. I quickly called David's assistant and explained my situation. She assured me she'd take care of everything to take my place and we went over the timeline. A few hours later, David e-mailed me letting me know things were going great. And things were going great! I was able to attend the reception for a short time and saw for myself.

All in all, if every venue had coordinators like this, I would be out of a job! I was personally impressed and never encountered venue coordinators that allowed couples to skip out on hiring their own coordinator entirely. I highly recommend couples to check out and consider the Westin Alexandria.

David Magsumbol at the Westin will give you the wedding of your dreams! The Westin is beautiful and affordable. David is the best coordinator in the entire DC area! 5 star service. He and the Westin are simply the best! Could not have picked a better venue!

The restaurant/bar catered our event and the food was amazing! The white glove service was also a nice touch.

Working with David Magsumbol and his team at the Westin made my wedding day dreams come true. They were very flexible and easy to communicate with. Our guests raved about the food (all organic!) for the cocktail hour and reception and the serving staff were very courteous. If we had any issues, David and his team were always receptive to make sure we were 100% pleased. David definitely went above and beyond to make sure we had the best customer service experience.

Also, the location also has a great space for taking photos in the patio in front of the hotel -- it doesn't have any foot traffic to interrupt photo sessions. Even the lobby of the hotel is picturesque! Our out-of-town guests enjoyed the free shuttle around Old Town Alexandria which allowed them to do sight-seeing before and after the wedding. My only quip is that the lighting staff should be more organized about the lighting options, so that wedding-novice brides, such as myself can know what the lighting will look like. However, the lighting on my wedding worked out beautifully -- it was just difficult to understand the lighting differences. Nevertheless, I cannot say enough how wonderful my experience was with the Westin and I'm so happy we chose them for our venue.

Beautiful spacious ballrooms, excellent food, and a great wedding coordinator on site (David Magsumbol). Highly recommend the Westin. Only downside was that the front desk staff were a little rude to a few guests that were checking in.

The Westin Alexandria made all our wedding dreams come true! Our wedding was everything that I envisioned it to be, and I have the Catering Manager, David, to thank for that. I so enjoyed working with David; he was always professional, attentive, and especially kind. All the members of the Westin team--Agnes, Beth, Jessica, Rachel, Marie, and Guillermo--were truly wonderful to work with. Every single detail was attended to with care and diligence, resulting in an absolutely stunning and seamless wedding affair. Many of our guests said that it was the best wedding that they had ever attended and felt that the flow of the event and the service were well executed.

The chef is to be acknowledged for creating incredibly delicious appetizers and meals for our affair. Many of our guests were also amazed with the appetizers and meals, stating it was the best food they’d ever had at a wedding. I was extremely impressed when one of my gluten-free guests told me that the chef came to her table to introduce himself and ensure that her meal was being prepared properly.

The Westin Alexandria is a gorgeous hotel that offers a “boutique” atmosphere. Every member of the hotel staff was accommodating and clearly devoted to making sure that our guests had a pleasurable stay. The newly redesigned restaurant/bar is stunning and offered fantastic meals. I heard countless compliments from our guests about how delicious and artistic the food was. Our guests really enjoyed the location of the hotel because they were easily able to access Washington, DC, and tour the Old Town Alexandria area. One guest from California said, “I felt like this was a true Virginian destination wedding.”

This hotel is in a class above all the rest. You will be extremely impressed with every aspect of the hotel: the contemporary design, the gracious and accommodating staff, and the amazing food.

We could not have been more pleased with the level of service we received from the staff at the Westin. An added bonus was that guests who attended also complimented on the efficiency and professionalism of the staff.
Let me note, our wedding was not easy to coordinate logistically. It was a cultural fusion wedding containing both American and Pakistani elements. Those familiar with cultural weddings of this region can relate. Yes, this meant a Barat procession, bhangara dancers, a mandap etc. We were very impressed with David’s (the catering sales manager) knowledge around these types of wedding. He was able to work out all the very detailed logistics with us and even make suggestions that we went with. Working with David just made everything for us that much easier. In the end our event was all a success due to the staff of the Westin.

Working with David at the Westin was a wonderful experience. He was very flexible with our needs and went far above what I expected in making us feel welcomed. Our guests had a great time and the Banquet staff was polite and responsive. The Food was Great. I'm also glad we got a Kids room for the wedding where kids could go and play for the night. We even had beds in the room which helped alot since we had a few toddlers who fell fast as sleep. I would recommend the Westin in Alexandria and specially David M. as a the main point of contact. We truly had a memorable experience.

My then fiancee found out that the Westin was building another hotel near the Patent Trade Office in Alexandria. It wasn't quite Old Town but it was close enough to the Metro for our out of town guests and close enough to Old Town. Our wedding guest list came up to be 200+. From our first contact to our last, Stephanie Smarsh, catering sales manager of the Westin Alexandria, has been absolutely wonderful. We initially saw the Westin under construction in October of 2007. Even under construction, the natural wood paneling, lighting, as well as the modern but traditional furnishings were exactly what we were looking for. The place was sleek and had a simple elegance just like me and my husband. :) We signed the contract with Stephanie for a "pre-opening/ construction" price. We were garanteed to be the only event that Saturday in their main ballroom and had our own gift room, a secure place to move the gifts to, and a "bridal escape" room, self explanatory.

Stephanie was very prompt in all her emails and contact with me, my now husband, and my mother. She was very flexible and accommodating in all of our meetings. I would send her these incredible 20+ question emails and she promptly responded every time.

She also worked very well with my mother-in-law who hosted a small cocktail reception for the guests staying at the hotel, the Friday before the wedding after the rehearsal dinner, as well as the brunch the following Sunday morning. Working with Stephanie was so easy and stress free.

Joshua Armety, the house audio and visual man (working for PSAV), was also a pleasure to work with. I had emailed him several pictures of the lighting scheme I wanted. We met with my mother in tow at the Westin. He was able to show us a plethora of cool lighting schemes and designs for the wedding. He actually confessed that he enjoyed doing weddings since it was more creative that conferences. We ended up with two different lighting schemes, one for the wedding ceremony and the other for the reception. All the guests were wow-ed at the transformation of the room from one function to the next. He also made two custom gobos for us, one to shine on the dance floor as we danced (it was our monogram) and the other was to shine on the wall of the ballroom. All under $1000. I would highly recommend investing a little bit of the budget in lighting. It goes a long way in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing.

The entire staff at the Westin treated us like rock stars that weekend. It was an amazing experience working with them. Words can't express how thankful I am that we worked with such great individuals. The knew exactly what I wanted and went above and beyond my expectations in the execution of my wedding.

We had a great experience with the Westin Alexandria. David the catering manager was wonderful to work with and the rest of the staff also was great. David helped us come up with a lot of ideas for our reception, such as the order of events, linens and ceremony decoration. They were very accommodating and flexible, especially with our many food requests and allergies, and the food was amazing!! We were able to come up with a menu that accommodated everyone and all our guests raved about the food. It was a wonderful location very close to Old Town and easy access to the airport and Metro.

We were nearly one half hour late for my reception brunch; the hotel staff was very accommodating. The food was delicious, my cake was gorgeous. The catering staff made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant---and to top it off the food was affordable, I would recommend this location for a reception to anyone.

I had my entire wedding weekend at the Westin Alexandria including the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, and Sunday brunch. We also had our hotel block for guests at the hotel. I'm very pleased with this hotel, overall, and especially our wonderful coordinator, Sandy. The coordinator really made me feel comfortable on our wedding day and was there to help with every detail. The food was great for all the events and we received many compliments. All events ran smoothly and the staff was very helpful when any problems came up. The hotel was very accomodating with our requests. I would recommend this venue to anyone. It's also a great location because Old Town Alexandria is nearby, and our guests enjoyed visitng there.

When I first started looking into venues for our wedding I was nervous about going with a hotel because although there were a lot of benefits, I was afraid it wouldn't feel personal. My fears were COMPLETELY unfounded.

Our coordinator, David Magsumbol, was incredible, start to finish. He was always on top of things and I didn't have to spell everything out. He's clearly done this before because he anticipated things that I hadn't thought of and took care of them. Despite being someone who likes to have everything under control and make all decisions right away, there were a lot of decisions I just couldn't make on my own and David was AMAZING at helping me and my hubby figure them out.

The venue was beautiful. I wasn't crazy about the carpeting and the chairs in the ballroom because they didn't really go with my colors at all (plum and pewter), but I didn't want to shell out the extra bucks for chiavari chairs (which are mega uncomfortable anyway!). The lighting and other elements came together perfectly to make it all blend and work well together. David and his team were very accommodating of the space we'd need for our small party and it all worked out very, very well.

The only thing that was a little 'meh' for me was that sometimes it would take a while to receive a response via email, but this is partially on me because a) I ask a LOT of questions and b) I'm not really a 'pick up the phone and call' person, and as busy as the Westin events staff are, I imagine they can't sit at their desks answering my silly emails all day. The bottom line is that all my questions were answered and as we got to our big day, I didn't have any worries at all! Isn't that what all brides dream of?

DEFINITELY would recommend, over and over and over again.

We had our wedding at the Westin Alexandria on April 24, 2010. Everyone who attended described the location as 'contemporary' and 'elegant'. The food was spectacular - from the appetizers to the main courses of beef, bass and squash ravioli for our vegetarian guests. Shannon Peters, the coordinator, was outstanding. Her responsiveness, professionalism, and flexibility is unparalleled. The banquet room was beautiful and modern. The lobby made a beautiful location for photos. The only hiccup was in the room block for our guests. We had over 100 people coming from out of town, the majority of which had some issues booking the rooms into our block. Once I brought these issues to the hotels attention, it was resolved.
