Tregaron is the best deal in town if you are looking for a beautiful wedding location in DC for a reasonable price! I had my ceremony in front of the Dacha (tea house). The location is so picturesque that it didn't require hardly any decorations; I brought a few pots of mums and put them around the fountain in the garden to add a little color, and that was it. I had my reception on the terrace, which is elegant and wonderful. We had about 110 people, so not everybody could sit out on the terrace; we had a few tables in one of the rooms off the terrace, and kept the doors open so that the guests felt more connected to the terrace. This worked just fine; and, if it had been a hot day, having the indoor (air-conditioned) option would have been fantastic for older guests who can't stand the heat. In addition to being beautiful, Tregaron is in a great location (Cleveland Park), with easy access to the metro. And it has free, off-street parking, which is almost impossible to find at wedding venues in DC! I highly recommend Tregaron to any bride who is looking for the convenience of being in the city without actually feeling like you're int eh city. My only advice to people who are considering getting married at Tregaron is keep in mind that it is on a school campus. They are very strict about when you can come visit the venue (usually after 4pm, when the students are no longer on campus). The woman who handles the rentals is very helpful as long as you give her a few days advance notice of when you'd like to come visit. She's also very responsive via phone and email, so it's easy to get in touch with her when you have questions.

The other great thing about Tregaron is that I didn't have to book a year in advance. I booked in January 2009 for a September 2009 wedding date; when I was asking about dates in January, they had most Saturdays in September and October available.

A lot of the reviews from 2008 complained about the construction at Tregaron. As of September 2009, the construction is finished and the grounds look great!

I found Tregaron on the internet while researching another site. It was a great hidden find! It is a beautiful old mansion on a huge estate in Cleveland Park. The house and grounds are now a private school. In the mansion, there are two big party rooms, plus there is a huge terrace and space for an outdoor ceremony. The two indoor rooms are wood paneled, recently refinished, and each had a fireplace. We had our ceremony in one of the rooms in front of the fireplace with a beautiful mantelpiece, and it was just lovely! The only negatives - they are currently doing some construction/repairs (might be done by now), and because it is a school there are some constraints on when you can go there to look at the place and when you can have the rehearsal. All in all, a great site and we are so happy we had our wedding here!

I had a wonderful August wedding at the Washington International School. We were able to use all of the grounds and it was lovely. The point of contact there was easy to work with and 3Citron, the required caterer did a wonderful job. I suggest you have a day of wedding coordinator if you have your wedding here since 3Ctiron and the venue do not provide one... things can get a little crazy and I'm glad we did.

I'd actually gone to this venue as a middle school student, so it was partly for nostalgic reasons that I chose it for my wedding. But I couldn't be happier. Keep in mind that this is a school and not a full-time wedding venue, so you are just renting the space, and access to it of course needs to happen outside of school hours. But it is a beautiful stately mansion in a lovely part of D.C. - a peaceful oasis in an "urban" setting, which was important to me. The grounds are green, well taken care of and a nice backdrop for photographs. The wedding itself happens in this little shaded nook that gave an intimate feel. There is a brick patio which was lovely for an outdoor dinner and cocktail hour, and there are two rooms inside (a larger and a smaller room) for the reception. I would only mention two things to potential couples:
    - it was the perfect size for our wedding, which was slightly under 100 people. I'm not sure how anything much larger would work.
    - it's a little walk from Tregaron to the main street, so you'll want to arrange for transportation for the older folks (we had trouble getting taxis to come up)

We were pleased with our wedding at Tregaron. The food was excellent as was the facility and grounds. Our only gripe was that the staff ate the remains of our wedding cake so we had none left to put in the freezer for the following year!

First the pros: the school building and grounds are gorgeous and ideal for a smaller wedding. (we had 60-odd) The inside has cheerful yellow walls and gorgeous wood panelling and a fireplace, would be perfect for a Fall/Winter wedding. We were planning on a summer wedding and what sold us on this venue was the beautiful stone terrace for dinner and outdoor patio/grove for cocktails. This venue is an amazing location for a DC wedding as its right in the middle of NW DC just off Connecticut Ave, yet feels like its out in the country due to the lush park-like gardens.

The big cons: the gardens are why we chose this place and we were promised in writing that the construction going on in the gardens below the terrace would be completed in September 2008. To cut a very long story short, the school lied to us for a year about the progress of the construction and our contact at the school was incredibly rude and unprofessional. And we've heard from several of our vendors and other couples who have married there over the years that construction of some sort is always going on somewhere on the school grounds. So if the outdoor setting is important to you, I would not recommend this venue.
